Thailand welcomes Indonesian flights The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has welcomed the introduction of new flights to Bangkok from Indonesia.

Indonesia AirAsia recently introduced four weekly services between Bangkok and Surabaya and is already planning a direct flight to Bangkok from Medan. This could further boost visitor numbers to the region, reports eTN.

Nithee Seeprae, director of TAT Jakarta, said: "We currently receive some 200,000 travellers from Indonesia each year with an average growth rate of ten per cent per year.

"We are now targeting 300,000 visitors thanks to the multiplication of flights between Thailand and Indonesia."

She added that Thailand has a number of attractions that will appeal to overseas visitors including the recently opened Madame Tussauds Museum, as well as high-quality spas close to Bangkok.

TAT was formed in 1960 to help promote Thailand's international appeal and support the country's developing tourism industry.
