Thai airline embraces mobile communicationsAirAsia is planning to expand into Thailand's telecommunications industry with a new venture.

The budget airline, which offers flights to Thailand, has signed an agreement to create Tune Talk Thailand with a number of Thai investors.

It means that Tune Talk Thailand will provide 3G wireless services starting on January 13th next year, reports the Bangkok Post.

Tony Fernandes, the founder and chief executive officer of AirAsia, explained the decision to enter Thailand's mobile market was to help ensure a low-cost network for customers and offer "one flat calling rate throughout the region".

He added: "We have the necessary elements for success - a solid distribution channel and the extensive customer base of AirAsia - to make our mobile expansion in Thailand gain a greater foothold in the region."

AirAsia was established in 2007 and has a route network that covers more than 20 countries.
