Thailand could attract cricket fansCricket fans could be tempted to take flights to Thailand as the country continues to embrace the sport.

The Bangkok Post reports that a recent drive to develop as a top class venue for international cricket has led to a number of major cricketing tournaments in the region.

Next month, the Cricket Association of Thailand will host its first Asian Cricket Council (ACC) elite event.

The ACC Under 19 Elite Cup will see ten teams head to Thailand to take part in the competition - which is a major step in qualification for the 2012 Under-19 World Cup.

Starting on February 1st, Hong Kong, Qatar, Malaysia, Singapore and Bahrain will travel to Chiang Mai to begin their games, while teams from Afghanistan, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Thailand will play each other in Bangkok.

Created in 1983, the ACC is based in Malaysia and its main aim is to increase interest in the sport across the region.
