Orchard visits and fruit tasting are the focus of the latest campaign by the national tourist board in Thailand.

Thai visitors urged to taste the fruit of the orchards

With the fruit harvest just around the corner, the national tourism board of Thailand is encouraging visitors to discover the country's lush orchards.

The Tasting Tasty Fruits campaign has been launched by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to boost interest in fruit growing, the Bangkok Post reports.

Fruit harvesting runs from May until late August, and Brits arriving on flights to Thailand during the summer are urged to try rambutan, durian, mangosteen and salak as well as the more popular lychee.

The south of Thailand is also well-known for its pineapples, while more exotic and rare fruits on offer in the region include longkong and palm fruit.

Furthermore, TAT is promoting sustainable tourism in Thailand at its ongoing 2011 Thailand Tourism Festival, which runs until June 12th at the Impact Muang Thong Thani conference hall.

The fair runs from 10:00 to 21:00 local time daily and includes top tips on where to find the best restaurants and shopping centres in Thailand.
