Bangkok named best city in the world Bangkok has been awarded the coveted title of best city in the world, an accolade that could inspire holidaymakers to book flights to Thailand.

Readers of Travel + Leisure voted for the capital in the magazine's World's Best Awards 2011, suggesting there is no better place to visit than the Thai metropolis.

Bangkok saw off competition from famous destinations such as Florence and Rome in Italy, Istanbul in Turkey and New York City to claim the top prize, which it received for the second consecutive year.

Nancy Novogrod, editor in chief of Travel + Leisure, said: "It's clear that remote and exotic destinations - places that convey a sense of authenticity and adventure - are ruling the day once again."

Ms Novogrod is set to join representatives from each city at the Mr C Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday July 14th, when she will present the accolades.
