Thailand 'holds Indigenous People's Day events'

Thailand has played host to a series of events to celebrate the indigenous peoples of the world.

Thailand holds Indigenous Peoples Day events

Travellers on flights to Thailand could have the chance to take part in some of the events which are being held in the country to mark the International Day for World's Indigenous People.

Taking place until August 9th 2011, the three-day event is being staged in Chiangmai and will see representatives from 36 different ethnic groups taking part, the Shan Herald reported.

A festival entitled the Asserting Indigenous Peoples' Lifestyle and Rights event will be held at Suan Chalerm Phrakiat King Rama IX of the Chiangmai Provincial Administrative Organization in the city.

The Thai government has played host to the event once before, welcoming visitors from all around the world in 2007.

People on flights to Thailand next month have the chance to take in the excitement of the annual Phichit boat race, which will see 40 long boats compete, with the Thai king set to attend to give the winners their trophy.
