Demand for Phuket properties on the increaseTravellers taking flights to Phuket could be among those looking to buy a home in the location, with the number of buyers noted to be on the increase.

A rise in the amount of Russian buyers, as well as expats who have been working in Hong Kong and Singapore returning are said to be behind the rise, the Bangkok Post reported.

Piya Sosothikul, the managing director of developer Erawana Co, told the newspaper that the growth was coming more from nations which have recovered better from the economic downturn.

The company's figures showed that sales in the first half of the year were up 25 per cent compared with the same period of 2010, with sales expected to hit 5.4 billion Thai baht (£109.6 million) by the end of the year.

Some of the demand may come from Czech nationals taking flights to Phuket, as the restrictions on the visas have recently been reduced.
