INDIA From the classic to
the unusual, explore the great diversity of sights and cultures
that can only be found in India. Princely palaces, bustling
cities, historic forts, remote villages and beautiful scenery
are all to be found. We seek out the most delightful aspects
of this mysterious region and its people.
Day 1: London – Chennai
Meet and assist on arrival in Chennai and transfer
to hotel. Take an afternoon city tour of Chennai. Visit the
Government Museum and Art Gallery, drive through the Flower
and Fruit Market, visit the Fort St. George and the Fort Museum
Finally drive along the Marina Beach, to visit San Thome Cathedral.
Day 2: Chennai – Kanchipuram – Covelong
After Breakfast drive to Covelong, en-route visiting
Kanchipuram and the golden city famous for its temples and Silk
Sarees.
Day 3: Covelong
Morning excursion to Mahabalipuram’s important
rock-cut temples and bas-reliefs showing the ancient style of
Indian worship.
Day 4: Covelong – Pondichery
After Breakfast Drive to Pondichery.
Remainder of the day at leisure to explore this quaint old French
town in India.
Day 5: Pondichery – Tanjore After Breakfast drive to Tanjore. Visit the Brihadisvara
temple and the Raja Chola Art Gallery.
Day 6: Tanjore – Madurai
Morning drive to Madurai, afternoon visit to the Meenakshi
Temple which is an excellent example of Dravidian architecture,
covered from top to bottom, in images of gods, goddesses, animals
and mythical figures. Also visit Sundareswarar Temple.
Day 7: Madurai – Thekkady
Morning drive to Thekkady. In the afternoon enjoy a visit to
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady, one of the most important
National Parks in India.
Day 8: Thekkady
Day at leisure to explore the plantations surrounding
the beautiful spice centre.
Day 9: Thekkady – Kumarakom
After breakfast drive to Kumarakom, remainder of the day at
leisure to enjoy the famous backwaters of Kerala.
Day 10: Kumarakom
In the morning take a walking tour of the Kumarakom
Bird Sanctuary.
Day 11: Kumarakom - Houseboat
In the morning transfer to board the Houseboat (Kettuvalam)
for the overnight stay and cruise on the backwaters of Kerala.
Day 12: Backwater - Cochin
Morning disembark the Houseboat and drive to Cochin
Evening enjoy a Kathakali dance show, the mask dance theatre
which uses music, songs and mime to enact stories.
Day 13: Cochin
After a leisurely breakfast enjoy a morning sightseeing
tour of Cochin, Visit the Dutch Palace, the Jewish Synagogue,
St. Francis Church and the Chinese Fishing nets that line the
tip of Fort Cochin. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 14: Cochin Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
