Being the first airport to begin operations in Kerala, the Trivandrum International Airport was also the first aerodrome, outside the metropolitan cities, to be upgraded to the status of an international airport in 1991. Located nearly 3.7 kms westwards from the city centre and 16 kms from the famous Kovalam Beach, the Trivandrum airport is very well connected to all major international destinations like Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Colombo, Doha, Jeddah, Muscat, Sarah, Singapore and is a convenient  stop-over point for passengers opting  for connecting flights to SAARC, Middle-East and other South East Asian nations.

Airport Information: A new world class terminal scheduled to be operational from Jan 2010 at the Trivandrum Airport is being built in tubular design. The new terminal will have all facilities like escalators, elevators, aerobridges and a space large enough to accommodate one Boeing 747 and two A-300’s  aircrafts. Possessing an estimated passenger handling capability of more than 1.3 million, the new terminal of the Trivandrum airport occupies a floor area of 20,000 sq metres with a capacity to cater to about 1600 passengers, at a time, during peak hours.

Common Users Terminal Equipment (CUTE) technology enables automated check-ins reducing the rush of passengers at the terminal. In addition to this, X-ray machines have been attached to conveyor belts for faster clearance of luggage during the screening process.

Airport Connectivity

Bus: Those desirous of availing bus services can do so from the city bus terminal at East Fort, situated near the Padmanabha Swamy temple.

Cab: Passengers can avail pre-paid taxis and auto-rickshaws from the designated counters in the terminal building.

Car Parking: Both short-term and long-term parking is offered at the airport for a fixed fee applicable for a minimum of two hours.

Car Hire: Numerous car hire companies have set up their counters at the airport for passengers requiring chauffeur driven or self-driven cars.

Lounge: Replete with telephone, internet kiosks & phone–recharging points, the new terminal also has an executive lounge run by Muthoot Plaza.

Food & Beverage: Apart from numerous tea, coffee, juice vending machines and snack bars one can also find restaurants in the departure area of the international terminal.

Shopping: Along with stores that sell books, gift items and mobile phones, the airport offers a duty free shop for buying branded items of necessary use.

Business facilities: There are no business or conference facilities at the airport, but internet kiosks have been set up at the international terminal offering on-demand internet access.

Money, Banking, Postal and Telecommunications: One can find a post office and a bank branch at both the arrival and departure areas of the international terminal.

Hotels: Although the Trivandrum airport does not have a dedicated airport hotel but there are other airport hotels in the vicinity that include Hotel Lucia, South Park, Horrison located within a radius of 7km from the airport.

Help Desk and Other Services: Passengers who have misplaced their luggage can approach the lost and found office at the international terminal. In addition to this, medical facilities and dormitory accommodation is also available for in-transit passengers. For the benefit of physically challenged and convalescent passengers, the airport authority offers wheelchairs and special assistance as well.
