Auckland International Airport is New Zealand’s major gateway to the world. Formed in 1988, the airport has been voted to be one of the 10 best airports in the world consecutively for two years. The airport handles more than 13 million passengers a year and over 20 international airlines and is Australasia’s busiest airport after Sydney. Contributing enormously to the economy of the country, the airport generates billions of dollars in revenues from over 70 percent of the global travellers who enter or leave New Zealand through Auckland Airport.

Terminal Information: The airport has an international and a domestic terminal. The terminals are well equipped with all the passengers’ services and facilities that are convenient and easily accessible both for arriving and departing passengers. The domestic terminal is hub to a number of domestic and regional carriers which include the Air New Zealand and Qantas. The international terminal handles over 20 international airlines. The terminals offer luggage storage, wrapping, visitor information and other passenger assistance. There are passenger’s helpdesk available at the terminals.
Airport Connectivity
The airport is well connected by a network of buses and taxis from all parts of the city and the country.
Cab Service: There are numerous taxi ranks outside the arrivals area’s door 8 of the international terminal. Some of the taxi companies are Alert Taxis, Auckland Co-op Taxis, Corporate Cabs, and North Shore Taxis.

Car Hire: Car hire facilities are located on the ground floor adjacent to the arrivals area. There are many car hire companies to choose from like Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, and Britz among many others.

Lounges: There are VIP lounge facilities available for the transient passengers to relax at the airport. Food & Beverage: Auckland International Airport is full of eating places. The long list of food joints includes names like Café Espresso, McDonalds, Sbarro, Café Downunder, Spinnaker Bar, Burger King, and Subway.
Medical Care: For emergency medical care or for using a first aid room, one needs to dial 98777 from any airport phone in the terminals except the Telecom phones. Business Facilities: Business or leisure travellers who wish to remain connected to outside world can access internet at the wireless hotspots in the international terminals. Document Scanning, copying and fax can be done at the Smarte Carte counter which is located opposite that Check-In Counter 67 in the Ground Floor Departures Area.
Money, Banking, Postal and Telecommunications: ATMs have been provided throughout the domestic and international terminals. For money exchange, there are as many as ten Travelex stores. One may also post mails at the post boxes located across the terminal. Postage stamps can be purchased at ‘The Collection Point’ and ‘Whitcoulls’. Besides, the airport has plenty of telephones and a vast wireless Internet access network.
Facilities for Passengers with Special Needs: Auckland Airport has many facilities for passengers requiring special assistance. These include automatic doors and lifts, ATMs with Braille keys, drinking fountains, wheelchair accessible toilets, and wheelchair availability.
Airport Hotels: There are plenty of accommodation facilities within a 4 mile radius of the airport. The hotels coming under this radius include Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland Airport, Jet Park Airport Hotel, Silveroaks Inn Silverpoint, Quality Inn Auckland Airport, and Centra Auckland Airport.
Other Needs: There are plenty of facilities to ensure that passengers have a convenient time at the airport. Children’s play areas, showers, towel and hair dryer hire, and prayer areas are among the available facilities.

Lost and Found: The lost property office is located in the operations building at the end of the international terminal. The office phone number is +64 9 256 8813. Duty free items lost in the transit area are deposited with New Zealand customs, while perishable goods are destroyed.
Smoking: The forecourt of the international terminal has designated smoking areas before security. Departing passengers or transit travellers can smoke in the smoking lounge on the second level of the international terminal after security.
