As the largest metropolis in India, the home of Bollywood and the country’s commercial hub, Mumbai is a popular tourist destination bustling with visitors from all over the world. Brits love the city for its incredible soaring skyline and its wonderful balance of relaxing beaches and lively city atmosphere. When you think of Mumbai the first thing which comes to mind is the spectacular Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and there’s no doubt that you should pay it a visit during your stay. However, the city has many more cultural delights and tourist hotspots on offer, too. The Gateway of India, an impressive structure built to commemorate the visit of Queen Mary and King George V, is an ever-popular attraction which you can explore during your trip to the city. For those interested in India’s spiritual side Siddhivinayak Temple is definitely worth a visit, while those with a passion for art and culture should head to Jahengir Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. If you’re booking flights for the whole family you may want to take the kids to Water Kingdom, which is the biggest theme water park in Asia.

Although Mumbai sees moderate temperatures all year round, it can become incredibly humid during the summer months, which is why many visitors choose to go in winter – from October until March – when it is more comfortable to spend full days walking and exploring. October and November is India’s festive season, so book your tickets during these months to get involved in the incredible atmosphere of Hindu festivals Diwali and Navratri. If you’re thinking of getting flights to escape the UK during Christmas and New Year, Mumbai could be a fantastic destination as these events are celebrated in style in the city. It’s worth noting that you should avoid visiting Mumbai in June and September; during this time the city sees heavy rainfall and you won’t be able to experience it at its best.

You must have a valid visa to travel to Mumbai and it’s important to note that your passport must be valid for at least the next 180 days at the time of your visa application. The airport you’ll be travelling to, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), is one of the busiest in India so you can expect to find lots of taxi and car rental services available when you land to allow you to travel to your destination. CSIA connects many airports located in western and southern India and there is a separate terminal where domestic flights arrive and depart. If you're taking connecting flights from CSIA you’ll need to look for the inter-terminal coach which can transport you from international terminal T2 to the domestic terminal, but before you leave T2 don’t forget to take a look at the airport’s incredible presentation of over 7,000 Indian artworks and artefacts which have been gathered from all over the country.
