Start your day by visiting the rental car city depot in the morning, from where you will collect your rental car.
After renting your car, start your day’s journey by driving towards north of Auckland through the rugged West Coast. On this route, after you leave Auckland, you will reach the Muriwai Beach. Enjoy a short stop-over at the black-sands beach – stroll on the beach, surf in its safe waters or soak-in the stunning views of the ocean and its surroundings. Follow it up with a visit to the ‘gannet colony’, which is a colony of these amazing seabirds. Muriwai Beach is one of the most spectacular black sand surf beaches of New Zealand. Its southern tip, known as Otakamiro Point, is the site of Gannet breeding colonies. The Takapu Refuge near the beach is a well-known breeding area for gannets, where around 1,200 pairs of adult gannets can be found nesting in the summers. Visitors can easily spot these birds here between August and March every year. You will reach the Oaia Island by driving around 1.6km off the coast, where you can see fur seals feeding and resting during the spring season.
Continue your journey and keep driving towards north. You will reach the famous Kauri Museum at Matakohe, where you can enjoy another short stopover. Explore the museum to get an insight into the early days of the use of kauri timber and kauri gum and its present situation through the numerous displays and galleries.

If you are lucky, you will be able to spot bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, baleen whales, orca, seals, fish, penguins and other sea animals and birds on this cruise.
